Street Children of Bombay

Street Children of Bombay is the culmination of a year-long project documenting the lives of some of the estimated 100,000 street children who traveled across India to Bombay (now Mumbai) in search of a better life. This series highlights their struggles with poverty and exploitation, while also celebrating their resilience and friendships. Marginalised and criminalised, these children endure life at the bottom of a twisted caste system. Despite their circumstances, they embody remarkable strength, making them the unsung heroes of a city marked by deep social inequality. The project was made possible by the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography. It received the Visa d'Or at Visa pour l'Image and the European Publishers Award for Photography, resulting in the book's publication in six languages.
